Eric & Suzy Thompson – “Roots & Rock”

Nationally acclaimed master musicians Eric & Suzy Thompson take students on an interactive musical journey showing how the rich multi-cultural heritage of American musical traditions have influenced today's popular music styles such as Louisiana Cajun dance music, classic blues and jug band songs, oldtime Appalachian ballads and bluegrass hot licks. Eric's flatpicking on guitar and mandolin is exceptional. Suzy is a powerful blues singer, an award-winning fiddler and Cajun accordion player. Two shows available:

* NEW * “Oh Ye Yaie!!” - Cajun & Zydeco music & culture from Southwest Louisiana. Instruments include one-row diatonic Cajun accordion, fiddle, guitar, frottoir (vest rubboard), & triangle. Lots of audience participation. Presentation includes material on Cajun French language & the history of the Cajun people.

“The Roots of Rock” - using multi-cultural roots music styles including blues, boogie woogie, bluegrass, zydeco & Latin dance rhythms, Eric & Suzy show how America's rich multi-cultural heritage has shaped today's popular music. Instruments used include one-row button accordion, banjo, guitar, mandolin fiddle & cuatro.
